We are seeking a Legal Counsel or Senior Legal Counsel to be a key member of the global legal team. In this role, you will provide best-in-class legal advice, and work on wide variety of corporate legal matters including but not limited to: France domestic and international markets, significant customer and vendor agreements, M&A and financing transactions, advising local business teams and working with partners. You will leverage strong business acumen and international experience to manage a variety of matters and oversee issues related to real estate, labour & employment, intellectual property, litigation, and regulatory compliance. This position will report into the Associate General Counsel, based in Tokyo, Japan.

Legal Counsel – Responsibilities 

 Support the Associate General Counsel on domestic and international matters and projects

  • Negotiate, draft and review commercial agreements
  • Provide legal advice to major function teams (e.g., the Sales, Purchasing and HR teams)
  • Develop and provide compliance related training programs and activities.
  • Provide necessary training to the business on legal topics
  • Participate in corporate transactions including managing joint venture partners and mergers & acquisitions
  • Actively participate in forensic investigations, working collaboratively with other corporate staffs
  • Select and manage external counsel on a cost-effective basis
  • Work collaboratively with the legal staff worldwide on various matters
  • Manage filings and other corporate secretarial matters for corporate entities

 

Background and Requirements

  • The successful candidate will have at least 6 to 12 years of general corporate and commercial legal experience gained at a respected law firm and/or in-house at a multi-national corporate organization
  • Hold a law degree and have passed a bar
  • Experience in or knowledge of the automotive sector (or a related sector) will be a distinct advantage but is not essential
  • Able to work independently
  • Excellent client service and communications skills (oral and written)
  • Strong interpersonal and consultative skills; ability to interact effectively and work diplomatically with individuals at all levels
  • Ability to expeditiously identify and assess issues and provide legally sound recommendations, consistent with good business practices
  • Experience functioning as an entrepreneurial, strategic advisor to the senior teams executing business strategy
  • Creative and passionate about growing the business and understanding how to attain goals within different cultures · Comfortable with oversight of real estate, labor & employment, intellectual property, litigation, and regulatory compliance
  • French (native) and English (fluent) language skills are required
